Round baler auto oiler

My round baler has an auto oiler for the roller drive chains. I usually use whatever oil I have to hand when it needs filled, which is usually 15w40 engine oil. Should I use something different? I have thought of using chain saw chain oil. Thoughts and thanks for the responses.

My dad was frugal guy when was farming. Had Vermeer 605 f baler with the auto
oiler, he used the oil he drained out of his tractors and trucks in all the oilers and just able everything else that needed oiled. Seemed to work just fine.

I used chainsaw oil on our Claas Rollant 62, it too had an auto oiler. I also used to squirt the oil can on the only chain that was not connected to the auto oiling system ( The one that drove the pickup) with chainsaw oil.

I will second or third bar and chain oil. I would NOT recommend using used motor oil it has lots of dirt/carbon left in it and will make your chains wear faster than clean oil.

In real cold weather I use hydraulic oil. We are baling stalks in freezing temperatures at times. The thicker oils will not go through the auto oiler then.

I've used lighter bar oil, engine oil and hydraulic oil. Whatever leftovers I had sitting around or may have had some water in.... I would not use used engine or hydraulic oil because of the grit in it. We had a guy that used to use it as bar oil and wondered why he was going through a chain every other day and a bar a week...
Also beware that heavy bar oil may not work in a baler's auto oiler. My Claas didn't like it much...
