Friend of mine just bought a 30ac. hobby farm up in Maryland. Previous owner left the 269 which has been shed kept its entire life. Said something wrong with gear box? Are they good machines and is it worth
spending money to fix it? He is think about scraping it. I have not seen it yet but will be going up in a couple weeks to help him get the place going. Any suggestions on what to look for?

NH made pretty good equipment. Go look, pull the top off the gear box and look inside.Do some trouble shooting. It might be simple.Be a bad deal to junk something that needs a 20 dollar part.

Are you sure that it is a 'Haybine'? They made a 269 Hayliner square baler. I thought most of the Haybine (mower/conditioner) models started with a '4', i.e. 472, 469. In any case, don't scrap it.

Oops, 469 haybine. 269 was the bale the gentleman has that was also shed kept, completely gone through by the local dealer and is field ready. He is asking $2000.00 for that.

Do a quick check of the bearings on the conditioning rolls. If the bearings spin and wallow the shaft
undersize you have a bigger problem. Agree with others to pop the cover and check the gear box. Keep
the cutter bar and sections in good shape it will treat you well.
