NH 273 Knots Hanging on Bill Hook

So managed to finish baling yesterday, but limped a bit to the end. Knots were periodically hanging on the inside bill hook. Couldn't tell what caused it to hang, but it seemed to happen most when the baler shifted a bit on very minor slopes. Ran it through a manual cycle and noticed inside (right side from rear) knotter was ~1/8" behind the left side. Not sure if adjustment is needed there or how. Also noticed inside bill hook tongue hangs slightly on the cam as it start rotating.

Loosened the inside billhook cam nut ~ 3/16 as recommended by troubleshooting (Page 46). Couldn't figure how to bend the knife arm stripper. Looks like I'll be reading Bill Hook (Page 44) and Knife Arm (Page 45) sections a few more times before I try any more adjustments. Anyway, got ~200 more bales, and now have time to give it the maintenance it needs.

Any insights appreciated. Will send pic next time.

Twine knife is not cutting the twine as it should or the sweep part of the twine knife need to be adjusted so it almost hits the end of the bill hook. Either one will cause that problem

The knife arms bend easily. Read the specs then use a cresent wrench (jaws a 1/4' wide) as a lever to bend the wiper
arm to specs to sweep off the knot. Manual explains it poorly. Do not hit it with a hammer....bend it!

Starting with a good sharpening of the twine knife is always the first step. From there check the stripper/bill hook contact. It should make
contact with the heel of the bill hook about 11/16" from the tip and maintain contact to the tip. If not, bend as described in the other
post...
If it still won't wipe, then I'd probably reduce the tension on the finger until it does wipe. Unless the radius of the hook is out of whack
from wear or the hook is bent, it should work.......
Do be careful that if you bend the stripper, you do it such that it bends into the hook without bending it upwards towards the twine disc...
otherwise it may end up cutting the twines ends so short that the tails though the knot and they fail...

Good advice below, might want to loosen the bill hook tension spring as well if that doesn't work. Not much, less than 1/8 turn.

Used a NH 268 for years, always sprayed the knotter system with WD 40 before each use and again after each use- never had a problem with this machine. Also blew out the pickup and bale chamber with leaf blower and sprayed inside pickup and bale chamber after the spring cutting and again after the fall cutting with WD to keep from rusting. A little time spent at the barn saved a lot of trouble in the field.
