Setting grain drill planting depth

I have an IH model 10 grain drill, it is a combination unit with grass seed and fertilizer, single disk openers and has hydraulic lift. It has drag chains and I don't have a cultipacker. I have the owner's manual for it, but it does not discuss setting the planting depth. I have some cylinder stops that I can use to limit the depth. I have Sandy loam soil. Is the best way to set seed depth by setting the disk openers to cut a little deeper than the desired planting depth, and then test plant and check the seed depth, and keep tweaking until it is right? Thanks for any advice.
