#30 Kicker on my 336 Baler

Hello:

My kicker works pretty well for me, but in an effort to make it do everything right I thought I would see if anyone can give me some help. When I put my dial down to about 2 or 3, the first bale will be tossed in the wagon, but then the pan remains extended and will not go back to where it is supposed to be until I flip the lever to lock out, or whatever that is called. I would like to be able to use it at 1 or 2 so I can put more bales in the front of my wagon. What adjustment do I need to make?

It works great from 4 on up to 8, and tosses bales right over the wagon on 7 or 8. I usually use it around 4 or 5.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

At the lower setting it is not hitting the spring far enough inside the cylinder to push the pan back home to the latched position. But make sure all the linkages are lubed, even those without zerks. Make sure the latch is not bent and the roller for the latch is rolling. Either of those items can and do wear and require replacement.

When you flip the lever, you are just putting it in the home position and that is where it is not going. You may have a broken spring inside the cylinder.

Tongue in cheek, can you put a longer tongue on the wagon? Not quite a pun.

Thanks for the response. Can you tell me if the kicker will work the way it does even with the broken spring? I am done baling this year, so I will have some time to look into the possibility of a broken spring. It probably would be a good idea to lube everything also, I have not done that anywhere except where the zerks are.

Thanks again.

Hard to tell about the spring in the cylinder. That machine could be 40 years old. If it is working on the majority of bales, especially long throw, I would not take the cylinder apart. Do check the latch and its roller.

Can you fill the back of the wagons and work forward and let the bales in the wagon stop those incoming pile up toward the front.

With the short throw it may just not have enough energy in the spring to put the pan back to the home position.

I tend to put it on 4 and get a layer of bales in there, then turn it up and throw into the back a little more and then let them fall into the front. I really don't need a lower setting, except that I had all kinds of problems with my kicker the last couple years and finally got it working like it should this summer; feeling a little bit like an expert if you know what I mean. So I figure while I am having some luck maybe I would try to make it work on lower settings. I checked the latch and roller and they are good. I think you are probably right, I bet that spring lacks the energy to do the job after so many years.

There is a possibility that I may want to use the wagon to haul to people close by, so then it would be nice to maybe have my wife drive and I stand in there and stack them so I get a fuller load. I would need the lower settings for that but that may never happen.

Thanks for your help.
