Pull type sickle mower

I need to upgrade my sickle mower and have been looking at a pull type sickle mower. How do these work in comparison to the semi mounted mowers? Obviously it would be harder to back up with the trailer but it might be easier to make turn with my wide front tractor.

3 point or mounted by far is better then a pull type. I had one I sold years ago tha twas pull which did ok but was a pain to make a good square corner in the field. If I have a choice I prefer a mid mount first then a 3 point or rear mounted one. The mid mount or belly type which ever you want to call them make it easy to keep an eye on the machine so if trouble happen your likely to catch it before if becomes a high $$ thing.

I have had all three types, 3 point hitch, semi mounted and pull tupes. No problem eith any of them on turns. Like said backing is like backing a trailer. Also on the mowers with the bar infront of the wheels (horse mower) no problems either. I have never had a mid mount and the only thing I would try to use one of those for is to mow between posts under an electric fence, no way to make a square corner with one by turning right, to do that you have to turn left and circle. Part time I pulled a hay conditioner behind the pull type mower. Only problem is the pull type is rear heavy and need to put a jack under the back to get toung down to hitch up. You just get used to the distance the tractor has to go past the standing hay to make the clean turn.

I have made a good many square turns with a belly mount sickle mower you just have to know how to do it and the manual for the B/C AC sickle mower explains how

I would like to know hor to do it without raising the bar, going past the corner, backing up while making a turn to left, then going forward and then lowering the bar again. On the back you just piviot on the right rear wheel.

If you send me an e-mail I can scan that page and send it to you or I can sned you the whole manual. With out pulling it out and reading it I cannot explain it to you and the picture speaks louder then what I can say

My older brother broke the tongue on a horse drawn mower mowing off the garden and I sawed off the tongue and made brackets so I could use the 10-20 tractor. I was in my teens and got drafted. My brother joined the Air Force this was during the Korean War. My dad decided to quit farming
and since I was drafted I was given my old job back working for the Federal Gov testing vehicles. Hal
