John deere 30 combine gearbox

How do you check/change the oil in the main gearbox? I can see the drain plug on the bottom but not finding any check plug. Also does it use 80/90 oil?

Look in the fill plug. If you can see oil,your OK. Sometimes,a bolt on the case 'doubles' as check plug..About "half full" is
usually the correct level.

The problem is I don't see a bolt that looks like it goes into the case. There are bolts holding the to cover on but it looks like the unload engage linkage could get messed up if I take the top cover off. There has to be a easier way to check the oil
