IH 70 Vs. JD F620 plow

Are these two plows on an equal playing field or is one far and away a better plow? I've been wanting a 60 or 70 IH for a while and I need a plow
bad right now but the only 70 I can find is a lot more than the F620, even though the IH is original paint and the JD is painted.

Been around more Deere's than IH's of that era, but if the 70 has Super Chief bottoms it is as good and desirable as the F620.

My opinion is yes, it is. It will not have the trash clearance of later plows, but it is as good as anything built at the time.
I had a late 620 4-14's with spring loaded colters that I sold for $600 a couple years back. It plowed beautifully behind a 730D.

I have a JD F620 4/16, that I pull with my JD 820. It is a good plow and does a good job, but I think the IH 70 is probably as good. It would be a tough choice for me to pick one. I have the JD because it was available.

I have never been around the IH but the Deere is a very good plow and there are all the parts you want to be had as the bottoms and trips are the same as the f145's and f125's and they sold lots of them. Tom

If I recall correctly, I think my uncle had a F145 4-14"s behind his 3020 gas. Dad had the IH 70 3-16's behind his 730 gas. My choice was the IH 70, trip bottoms. Less plugging in heavy corn stalks. Now, the best/worst combination was other uncle's IH 766 gas with IH 720 4-16's auto-reset. Great plow, gutless tractor. Dealer originally sold him a 4-18's. Couldn't pull it in the heavy black soil in south central MN.

Both are good plows and work well for plow days. I have owned and used both at numerous plow days over the years all 3x14s. The F620 went down the road for a F650 a few yrs ago. My preference would be the IH 70 with super chief btms and trip beams.

From what I see in the picture, you NEED "Cover-Boards" (or Jointers ) on that IH Plow..

If you have neither, you cannot turn much trash and cover it up..

Cover boards are valuable on a Deere plow as well.
From the responses here, I'd be more concerned with the overall condition of the particular plow being considered than whether it happened to be a 70 or 620.
