Building a tandem rake hitch

I'm looking for any blue print or scetch that anyone might have to build my own tandem rake hitch. I do not have acces to one near me to try and replicate. Was just looking through some old discussion forums and saw that someone had built one back in 04 but can't reply that far back. I have an axle already just looking for ideas from some of you who may have built your own also
Thanks

Many years ago New Holland sold one to which could be hitched two of their Rolabar rakes, either two left hand delivery rakes or a right and left delivery and could make either one or two windrows. Or at least that is how I remember their advertising brochures. Perhaps you might be able to google some old brochures etc to get the idea of their construction. They looked quite simple but we never actually owned one, Just used our 56 and 256 rakes one at a time, usually on different jobs.

Delta Red has made one that he sent me the drawings for last year. My computer at the time died so I have lost the print. I'm pretty sure if you asked him he would do the same for you. He's on here and tractor tales. Good luck with your project, Keith

Here ya go....Made out of scrap iron. 18ft(i think) under the arch.2 ton truck steering axle upside down, steered with a
'standard' 8" stroke farm cylinder.

Although you already have an axle, I think a steering axle from a combine with power steering would be an excellent choice. Especially older Gleaners, JD. Cyl already on it, plus a good base to attach to the overhead frame.

Some things to think about. What type of rake, different types will require different setups. Then what are you wanting to do? Make 2 rows? Make one bigger row with them both rolling same way? Both rolling together for single bigger row? Changeable from one situation to anouther. Can be anything from very simple like just a trailer with hitch on each side of unit on like a trailer axle for 2 rakes to make 2 rows or very complicated to make to be able to change from one row to two rows or change width for conditiond from one rake width to 2 full rake widths on the go for heavy or light hay. So what do you plan for rake and what type of job do you want to do? When I was farming and making hay I had the olde steel whel rakes and would just use a chain from the farthest left spot on front rake to toung on rear rake and that would put 2 7' mower swaths together. Now if I would have been using a tractor with a 3 point hitch and wanted to make 2 rows at a time just could have taken a tool bar and put a hitch bracket on each side and hooked them both to the tool bar. Some simple ways to do things to very complicated depending on what you are wanting to do.
