Disc mower/conditioner

I am considering moving from sickle cut mower/conditioner to disc cut. Specifically looking at Hesston 1359 or 1363. Would solicit observations from anyone with experience on those models or any recommendations regarding best choices in the 9 ft. pull type disc mower/conditioner. Also any comments on best types of conditioning rolls, i.e. rubber vs. steel. herringbone vs. straight groves. Thanks.

The 1363/1366 (same basic machine but the 1366 is a center pivot) is built like a tank and uses the same cutterbar components and overall design as the 16-ft SP header. Unless you're doing a bunch of acres or have really brutal conditions it might be a bit more than you need. The 1359 is based on the old New Idea design and although is lighter duty than the 1363/1366 it is still a good machine.

The rubber rolls can be a weak part, especially if you have wood chuck or gopher holes. The stones will cut them, unless the rolls are the type that are made of belting fastened together so that the out side looks like the edge of a lot of rubber belts. Be aware of the danger of a disc Moco. You will have the ability to get twice as much hay rained on as you did with the sickle.
