New idea 323 picker plugging

Have a new idea 323 that can't seem to get adjusted right and always seems to plug up and drag the stalks with it. Have tried adjusting rolls in/out come to the conclusion there's got to be something wore out? Can't see anything obvious but don't really know what to look for. Thanks for the help!

Are the feed rollers wore out. Dad has an old oliver picker that did that so he welded them up and works fine.

In addition to the rolls being worn be aware that some modern varieties simply do not pick well. Others pick great. Years ago when seed corn was being evaluated they often came with a rating on how well they picked in the ear. Some varieties you will just have to endure when picking. Mike

(quoted from post at 17:42:37 07/12/16) It maybe just a bit to early to pick, seems a little green yet, maybe wait a couple months a try it again! LOL
ello, long time lurker, new to the forum. as to your problem with the 323 picker. Seems to be weakness on this model. My experience anyway.

On the rolls the corn stalk gets pulled through, there are little bumps, or notches I guess, in the ridge that pulls the cornstalk in and down.

Over the years those notches handle 100s of thousands of corn plants, and wear down.

A little weld bead on them to square them up, be careful to not get it too high to rub the other roll, and leaving it a rough weld bead, often helps
tremendously.

Other suggestions as to type of corn, toughness of stalk, even dew on the crop, all make a huge difference.

Also, speed is a big deal. These pickers were built when 100bu corn was kinda normal. If you are in 200 bu corn, you are going to have to go
slow..... On the other hand, the plant is supposed to feed in and you should be driving fast enough the plant feeds through the rolls at the same
speed you are moving forward, so the stalk attached to the ground helps pull the ear off. Sometimes, one should travel a little faster to help
out.....
