Haybine Bearing Removal

Oops, posted this in tractor talk by mistake.

Hey Guys,
I have a New Holland 479 Haybine that has quite a bit of slop in the gearbox at the end of the PTO shaft.
We bought the new parts, removed the PTO shaft from the splined shaft, the cover and seal to the gearbox, the crown nut at the end of the splined shaft, the splined shaft and the outside oil seal. When that all came out, the outside bearing, of the two, came out but not the bearing race.
So, inside the cast housing, we have the race for the outside bearing, the spacer and the inside bearing. Both bearing are identical.
The bearing race is stuck which has left the spacer and inner bearing trapped inside. Also inside is the gear itself.

How do I get the bearing race out? Is there a specific tool or method that works for anyone? Do I need to remove the gear from inside? To drive the bearing, spacer and race out or can I pull from the outside? In order to do that is removal of the other shaft the only way? That seems like a huge undertaking.

Any tips would help.

I apologize in advance if pics are upside down.

well since no one has commented ill give it a shot..First thoughts were slide hammer but you cant get anything in to the back side of that race because of the existing bearing most likely.. Other thing that came to mind is cutting torch, or small cut off wheel.. using either or being careful not to mess up the case BUT I would think even if you did a tad the race would still lock in place and work as should..

oops ,I got one in the backyard with same durn problem,, I cant seem to get the gears and shafts back in ..

i have had success with heating the race red hot with a torch then walking away till everything cools down the race will shrink enough to work out easily . some times i have bent old screw drivers at a 90 degree angle to walk them out after heating . if it doesnt work the fist time heat at the opposite side of the race

I believe heat, as Donald in mn suggested, will be a necessary element. If there is any usable lip, then a small 2 jawed gear puller might work. Any chance you can weld something to it to give a bite? Since races are so hard, they tend to be brittle so I've removed races in old land rovers using a cold chisel and working several spots until they fatigue and break. Of course that really depends on access.

weld a fast bead all the way around the inside of the old bearing cup it will shrink it enough it will come out with very little effort, sometimes even fall out
