Allis Rake/Tedder Parts

Hi all,

We have two of the old Allis Rake/Tedders here that haven't been touched in years. One's a model
7, and the other's a very similar earlier model that I can't find a model number for. I've always
thought it would be handy to get them up and running, even just for the tedding function. Does
anyone know if anyone makes teeth that would work on them? I also could use some of the
bearing/bushings that support the roller bars. I could steal some parts off one to make one
working one, but since both are in good condition I'm rater hesitant to designate one as a parts
rake for the sake of just one bearing and some teeth. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
They could be available from AGCO for all I know, I just don't have the part numbers.

Those teeth might be available from your local AGCO dealer. (AGCO parts books can be viewed for free on the web. I just too lazy to do it).

Also the rake teeth might be available through any brand of dealer who can purchase from A&I aftermarket. Below is a copy paste link for all the A&I teeth for all brands of rakes...(note: you may have to buy a box quantity of like 10 if dealer does not stock em which I doubt he will want to stock any on an oddball Allis rake)

Bearings: possibly through AGCO, match up numbers at Bearing Supply house, or make a bronze bushing are the realtively easy options.

Here's where I got teeth from when I still had one of those. Machine supply shops (Baum Hydraulics is a good one online) can supply you with all kinds of bushings or bearings so that should be fixable.

Thanks for the link. I figured I could match up some sort of tooth. The bearings are another
issue; they're not actually bearings, just a big heavy awkward piece of cast iron that sits in a
U-bracket. I was thinking I could pull the bar off and convert all three "bearings" to self-
aligning ball bearings, but then the height might not quite match, which is critical for the
mechanism that keeps the teeth pointed down.

I could probably convert all 4 bars and fashion everything to work, but that's 12 heavy-duty
bearings and blocks and a fair bit of stripping, which is a lot of time and money put into one of
those old rakes. Another issue with converting to a roller bearing is that the shafts have
likely been worn down and slightly misshapen over the years, so they likely wouldn't fit snugly
in the bearing bores.

Few year ago a friend that runs a small scrap yard got in one that had been cut up and I asked on here if anybody was interested in any of the parts and got no interest. Do not know if he still has any of it laying around or not. Would be a couple of weeks before could ask him.

Thanks for the info. If you happen to get a chance to talk to him and ask about it let me know. Don't put yourself to any great trouble though: it's not worth it for the amount I'll be using it.

Would anyone happen to know the part number for the casting that holds the needle bearings? I can't find the #7 rake or its predecessor on the AGCO parts site. I'm sure I found it a few years ago, but I must be dreaming.

If AGCO site is like Deere they drop books when they think they are not needed any more. Luckly I printed off several when I found them as they are no longer avaible when I need them. In my stash of books that I cannot find half of them I might have a book on that rake. And rebuilding older steel wheel hay rakes (mostly New Idea but some JD and McCormick with Case and Massey in mix) for an Amish friend and machinery dealer is what I am doing. Just no AC rakes because a horse cannot run a PTO, cannot spin tail fast enough. I think they could get the teeth from their parts supplier but not sure, think they have their own factory to make rake teeth and the ones I have used run at less than half the price in parts stores. The friends yard is just a mile from my house but a 2 mile trip to get there. Thing is he is only there part time so knowing when to find him have to possibly go several times to fimd him. I actually need to get back to see him. I am leaving tomorrow for several days of vacation.

How many teeth do you need? I found some in the shop last month. If I can find them again hey would cost you the price of shipping to you.

Hi,

Thanks for the offer! I probably need as many teeth as I can get my hand on. Unfortunately I'm located in central Ontario, which might make shipping from the States a bit more of a pain.
