Question on Timing a Case 230 Baler

Broke both needles on my Case 230 baler a few weeks ago. Machine shop welded them and finally got to install them this weekend. Adjusted the needles and set the timer so the needles break into the bale chamber right as the little triangle "fingers" on the bottom of the plunger pass over. However when the plunger retreats and starts its next plunge, the needles are still up in the bale chamber. The feeder has "delivered the hay and the plunger is starting to pack with the needles still about halfway up in the bale chamber. Seems like if I were to try to bale actual hay, this would break my needles again. Am I worrying about nothing or is there another adjustment I need to make? (Ask this question on Case form too)Thanks.

What about the operators manual? Have you got one as i probably explains how to properly time the baler.

Are you timing needles to plunger head when P H is rearward bound on a hay compression stroke?? If needles are timed correctly they should be back in home position long before feeder fingers bring more hay into bale chamber. I wonder if needle trip dog is prematurely releasing??

You need to be sure P H safety stop is operating correctly.
