I am looking at the chute that bales go through on the way out of the baler. On top is the plate that adjusts the tension on the bale and has a slot for the gear that measures the movement of the bale and trips the knotter. Below is a similar looking plate that the bale rides on and also has such a slot. That plate is badly rusted. I have cleaned it up as best I can and painted with rust converter but it is rusted through in places. I plan to add a diamond plate covering over it.
So far as I can see that slot serves no purpose. If I am right then I will save work and put the diamond plate right over the whole plate including the slot. Am I missing something here?
