Please identify field cultivator

I picked ip this field cultivator today. Seems to be very heavy duty. However the previous owner
ran it till he either broke or wore off the bolt holes on the end of the shanks that the sweeps bolt through.
I'd prefer to buy new shanks, if practical, rather than weld on it.

Any body know who made it?

I think Ferguson but some others made very simular models. Dought if any parts are avaible. Dearborn made one very simular. Ferguson called it a tiller.

What is this implement called? What's it supposed to do?

I'm in Tx and can get a summer and winter crop. After each crop is done I shred the residue, mold board plow, and disc it several times, to kill weeds, till it's time for the next crop. I feel like I'm discing too much and compacting the soil. I don't want to use any herbicides in my garden.

The shanks are on 10" centers. I want to install 10-12" sweeps, run them shallow, to kill weeds in the off season. Will that work?

Fred Cain field cultivator.

In heavy wet clay soils up here in MN, we found disks compact soil, field cultivators open and lift the soil.

Down south that rig can have a lot of different names........

Looks like my dearborn field cultivator. Pittsburgh also made them for ferguson. Mine had the swepts on it when I bought it and it will work like you want it to for your weed control. I switched mine out to point to rough up areas for deer food plots.

Massey Ferguson sold them into the 80s and AGCO still has a few parts. I believe many of the Fred Cain parts will work on the old ones, too.

Never heard of a Fred Cain, give some information on company please. And I do have a Ferguson version.

Where was the company located at? And what time frame? Was it a local regional company? Where was their market area? What all did they make?

dean, you will like this tool, I looked for years for a Ferguson or Dearborn model but never found one that I thought I could buy reasonable, seems like most folks thought a lot of their field cultivators.

I finally got an old AC field cultivator that someone had cut the snap couple hitch off and welded on a 3 pt hitch.

this tool works great, as it goes along the shanks will vibrate and pulverize the soil
