JD Van Brunt drill

It is capable of planting many different crops but will not do a great job with them all. It is designed primarily for cereal grains like wheat, oats, barley, rye, and the like. Many were sold with a grass seeder attachment to better handle fine grass seed and alfalfa. Larger seeds like beans, peas, and even corn can be sowed but the results wouldn't be as good as with a regular planter. The drills with "double run feeds" instead of the more usual "fluted feeds" are a little better at handling large seeds but they will still be dribbled, not singulated. Block-off covers were used to blank off individual feeds for sowing row crops.

First thing is to determine what model.Post a couple of pics so we can identify. Then order a book.'Mother Deere';ebay, and Jansales are good scources. As to what it will plant? about anything. Small grains, grasses,Affalfa (with proper equipment)'milo/sorgum,soybeans,peas........I suppose you could plant corn with it.However,it wasn't designed for corn and is not recomended.

I have had three different Van Brunts over the years. Very good machines. Much better drill than the 8200 and 8300 I had later.

There should be a chart inside the lid of the seed box showing common crops it will plant and settings for each.

If not, some of the charts may still be available from John Deere.
