Worked again the JD348. It did an outstanding job. Almost up there with the old New Holland 68..... ;-)

how many strokes per bale are you getting? my 24t usually around 12 to 14 in a good windrow,, makes a nice bale

Your 24t, if I recall correctly is a 65 stroke machine. My New Holland 68 is 63-65 SPM. This JD348 is 93 SPM.

We are selling all of our hay and one of the goals when upgrading balers was a higher SPM baler - not so much for capacity, but more flakes, which is appealing to our customer, i.e easier to feed out with smaller flakes. IMHO, more flakes gives a more consistent length bale too as the bale can only vairy in length by the flake size.

Don't know how many flakes are in those bales. We were racing to get the hay off the field as rain was in the forecast for the next day. None the less, we ran the baler at full 540 PTO rpms to give us that 93 SPM and the pace from baler to back of the wagon was - set a bale down, walk back to the bale chute of the baler and another one was ready to come off. Made for a nice steady pace. My 15 year old daughter drove and I stacked the wagons. Knowing help was limited, we only put down enough hay we thought we could get-up. We made about 250ish bales last evening. It was a great time.
