Broken Disc Blade

I have a renter that is a good farmer and takes excellent care of his equipment. He was disking and broke one blade and stopped when he first noticed it and replaced it when he had a couple hundred acres to g0. He is a good farmer and I never question what he does but I would think he would have waited until he was finished or had to stop for some other reason. Is this unusual?

Could be, maybe it was leaving a ridge he wasn't happy with. Obviously he felt like there was not better time than the present to fix it. I can't count the times I've said I'll fix that before I use it again, only to have it still broken when I go to use it because "I forgot". gobble

Depends. If he was fairly well caught up on his work why not fix it when its right in front of you? If you're running hard trying to beat the weather you might let it wait until you have time.

I agree why would you want to work a couple hundred acres and have strips with weeds in it so you would have to work it all again or just change out the blade,,, easy choice,, Fix It

Your first sentence answers your question. "He is a good farmer and takes excellent care of his equipment". They often go hand in hand. Mike

If it broke into the center it could cause the set to loosen and wear out the axle.
