NH 616 disc mower gearbox module oil leak?

Out mowing, notice the module below the gearbox looks oily.

Think, drat, the hyd cylinders leaking, better look.

Nope, it's gear oil.

Check the level in the gearbox, it's ok, oil level in the module is down a hair.

Went to Messicks site to make sure what to tighten up, and I notice they don't show a gasket between the gearbox and module.

I mean, there's a big hole in the module for the gearbox shaft to go through, and no gasket?

Is this right? Did they use a sealant between the two, or do they all weep oil?

Thanks

Fred

Reference # 22 in the gearbox parts breakdown is the output shaft seal. The output shaft gear is below the seal and sits in the first module where it is lubed by the module's oil supply. your leak is probably at the gearbox/module interface.

To actually answer your question, use an anaerobic gasket eliminator such as Loctite 515 or 518 between the gearbox and module. RTV is an option, but a poor one IMHO.

New Holland has built tens or hundreds of thousands of those modules on disc mowers, Discbines, and self propelled Discbines . Not a one has a "gasket" in the conventional sense in that location.
