Vermeer 504 G baler Tail gate repairing

I bought a Vermeer 504 super G baler. It shows very little wear, which I attribute to the rear tail gate not being able to close properly. The F , G and H models all use a similar type of tail gate. I have seen quite a few that are sprung, bent, repaired, welded on etc. Does anyone have experience with fixing them. The left hand side seems Ok. But the right hand side the pivot pin has been redone and the channel that makes up the side of the tail gate has ben welded on and patched, but it is not letting the tail gate close enough to pop up the indicator rod.

Damaged by closing the gate before the bale is out of the way, or rather before moving the baler forward out of the way.Probably going to have to do some torching, lineing up and rewelding. The gate not closing good may be due to the gate not lining up, or if it closes but does not stay closed the cylinders may be leaking down, or the tractor hydraulic control may be leaking. Your tractor may keep it closed. Or there may be a problem with the gate latch. Sounds like you are in for a lot of testing. Good luck.
