Drop spreader questions

I am planning to find me an old drop spreader to spread lime this fall. I was wondering if there were certain brands that worked better than others. I am looking at having to spread around 30 tons of lime.
I have read that if the lime is damp it will give you fits.

Getting a lime truck or wagon is out of the question. Our hills are too much for the trucks and we don't have a tractor big enough to pull the 4 ton lime wagon up the hills.

Tried "normal" lime in an MF badged Ezee Flow, 10 footer.

Did not work...bridged and plugged.

I spread 6 tons of lime with my 12 ft. New Idea drop spreader.
but as others said it was a slow process, not easy,
as most lime is wet and will not feed well.

if you could find lime that was stored under cover and was dry, it would spread so much better with a drop spreader.

the product is very heavy and you cannot load much material in the spreader or you might ruin your spreader.

I think an 8 ft spreader might work better, but I do not know as my 12 ft spreader is heavy built, as it is a large spreader.
you cannot get in a hurry, load the spreader with light loads and take your time
it can be done,

Dad bought 1 just like in the picture 60+ years ago. He used it 1 time. That was enough, had the
lime spread with a truck after that. Look around, 30 years ago when I was leased to a farm CooP
they had a product called pellime. It was pellited limestone. They put it on with a fertilizer
spreader. It was avaliable to the plants the first year, seemed like it was a dry product.

The guy with the lime truck would just love to show you how he can handle your hills. Just so long as the ground is dry.

Tell that to the 1 that said he wouldn't do it. And the other one who said he would then wouldn't answer or call us back.

I have an old New Idea 8ft sitting in the implement yard.I bought it at an auction and have never used it. It is for
sale. I'm in central Ky. Empty they are very light weight. Where are you located?
