round baler belts

I had to replace a flat belt on our claas variant 260 baler & it is tighter than the rest. I would have to assume the others have stretched but I am concerned that it might make a bad bale. The new belt is on the outside , & I have been thinking of changing the one on the other side to make them even. My question is, do I need to be concerned about the belts or will it matter to the bale shape if I leave it the way it is. Thanks Jim S

New Holland allows 3" belt length difference on 343". It is recommended to put any short belts in the middle, not on the edges. No idea what Class recommends, but I'd find out if I were you.

SWAG.....S is for scientific: Agree on having it in the middle. A tight belt in the middle can possibly give you a saddle shaped bale depending on how much it's short. As far as too much pressure on the short belt, probably so to some extent but I have always bought used balers and never had them all the same length. Besides, the hay will tend to move away from the short one(s) if it has room to move which a center short belt would allow.

Think about a narrow wind row. When you start a roll and if you don't weave back and forth, the bale is basically centered but as the rollers roll it, it spreads out on it's own to some extent....same process as mentioned above. You don't go around popping the center belt with what I said above.
