John deere wire tie baler missing bales

I have a John deere ws wire tie baler. It
works great most of the time but every now
and then it will start missing wire on the
right side. I noticed it will get wrapped up
on the twister on the right side and will
miss the next bale. It does this about every
other bale. I. Baled about 200 bales in one
field and never missed a bale. The next
field it missed every other bale. What old
be the problem

Did you change the wire spool? New spool might have a little rust on the wire or the wire is dry. Might try a pint of diesel or engine oil poured over the wire spool.

Different crop in the new field? I.e. grass instead of alfalfa?? Grass is springy and hay dog might be sticking or spring broken?

Of the wires wrapped on the twister, how many wires in the first twist that is on the twister? Just two or is it three?

IMHO after oil rose in price wire manufacturers got stingy applying oil to wire. As Roger stated I always add oil to wire. I don't use diesel because I think it doesn't have enough lubricating qualities. I think different brands of wire are better than others. I don't like Gerdau baling wire.

Does twister shaft have a wire groove in it? You can retard twister hook 1 tooth, sometimes 2 teeth from factory setting of twister hook point being under bolt that gripper arm pivots on. Also twister shaft & hook should have minimum up & down movement

Three wires says the wire left for the next bale is being caught by the twister hook because the wire if falling off of the back of the needle. Check the roller clearance to the needle toward the front of the baler or determine why the wire is falling out of the backside of the needle. Backside is toward the tractor.

If tied wire stays wrapped on twister shaft then next time tying system cycles the wire brought will be added to wire left on twister shaft. It's possible twister hook has gotten worn enough to hang twisted wire and this wear is difficult to see with ones eyes. Twister hooks are made of very hard steel and are expensive.
