Ford planter...

I have no idea what this is worth, and doubt my tractor is nearly strong/big enough. But just wondering if there would be pontental profit from it? Or is it worth bringing home in the case that some day I get a big enough tractor and am able to use it? Don't know hardly any thing about these things, just always kinda been watching for a planter, (smaller, 2 row ish) and spotted this Ford for $300.

depends on how much you are planning on planting with the old planter and its condition and can you still get parts,

if planting many acres of corn, soybeans might be worth fixing up.
but planting a garden or laying off rows in the truck patch, its going to be a pain, just to turn it around.

my friend gave me a John Deere 494 planter much like this one, but my little tractor does not have a remote hydraulic lift.
so after much searching for a hyd cylinder, hose and valve (to be installed on my tractor) I hit a home run,

another friend wanted the old planter to plant deer plots and he has a large 265 Ferguson,

he traded me even, a 2 row john deere planter that works good on my tractor,
picture attached, I was happy, happy, happy,

I believe I would let the old planter stay where it is,

most planting is over, this is a good time to look for a planter, summer fall,
lowest prices,

do not look for one in early spring, highest price.

How big a tractor do you have? A Ford NAA with remote setup will handle it, Even a 8N if you have it set up for remote cylinder. Planters do not take a lot of power. Biggest power taker is the fertilizer attachment if boxes are full due to the weight. Now being a Ford probably no parts would be avaible if needed. And even tho he says lots of plates probably would not have what you need and finding plates next to impossible. And worked when parked, how many years ago was that and how much has rusted in those years. Think they were good planters when new but now repair parts? Me I would hold out for something that was popular and I could still get parts for.

That is Ford 352 planter same as a White 543 planter. It uses JD B plastic plates.Plant many acres with one back in the day.A good planter when it was made. There is a guy in Ky. that has many salvage parts for them.

Didn't realize it doesn't take that much power. I've got a diesel MF 65. Reading you guys posts, I think I'll probably pass. I can't stand not being able to get parts.

I would think, being a white built planter, parts should be ready enough to find. Lots of those are still out there. Maybe not as many as Deere planters, but the Oliver/White planners were pretty popular as well.

Biggest thing, is look at the condition.

That White-Oliver planter may have been popular in your area but not elseware, never was any in my area, fact is there were no dealers in my area. For a time the White tractor was built at the old New idea factory at Coldwater, Ohio but there were none on farms in the area. I have no idea where you would go to find any parts for anything made in that time frame or even anything made by Oliver early on. By the time the tripple diget tractors came out no dealers left. After the super series none.

Here is the phone number that I have haven't talked to him in a few years 270 528 2133 ask for Larry.Hope this helps.

Until last year, I used a White 543. No problem getting wear parts from AGCO for it. Fry's in Pennsylvania has several for salvage if there is a part you need that is NLA new. As others have said, uses B-series plastic plates like Deere.
