So I was able to get a bit more info on this bale stacker I get o go help pick up tomorrow. The friend brought it out right sight unseen and it is a New Holland 1003. Good chance he got it by way of one of the Gov auctions which means likely to have some odd problems
Fun part is I'll probably have to figure out how to use it and then try to show my friend how to use it

What you will learn is the importance of making tight precise length bales, we ran a 1033 for several years and because of the previously mentioned things we quit doing custom stacking

If that is the case this guy is likely to have it messed up pretty fast. Last year when I helped him bale hay he used a tractor to rake the hay but he said he could not see the windrows so he was making them double a triple which in turned cause all sorts of problems with the baler which I was running. Told him a number of times to use a different tractor so he could see wht he was doing but he would not do so

Exactly my experience. If the bales are loose they won't trip the first table and get chewed up by that conveyor chain. Or you have to stop and manually trip the first table. If they are too long they get guiillitioned by the the second table when it tips up. Now that layer is missing a bale and the stack won't stand up when you unload. Make a 60 lb brick 40" long and it all works , at least that's how it goes with my 1030. Super handy once you figure it out.

Hey Dopp Creek, with 40" bales do you flat tie or edge tie on your 1030?

I'm still working out all sorts of issues on my 1030.

or two long bales will trip the first table, a sloppy bale won't go up the hopper and make the turn onto the first deck and the vertical chain will chew it up, ours had auto tie and we usually used it, if I remember we got two less bales per load but it made a sturdier stack

Our tipper on the baler put the cut edge up but I have seen them the other way to. (Bales are picked up on edge) I can also remember the 5 of us going out and tipping the bales over by hand so the bottom would dry if they got rained on. A bale with a wet side doesn't slide well and gives lots of problems.
