rolla bar hay rake teeth

am fixing up a nh 55 hay rake with rolla-bar. which style teeth are preferred and why. all steel or rubber ? txs

I've seen many prefer steel, myself included. The rubber seems to age prematurely and lose teeth. Especially if youonly use it over a few acres a year. With rubber you'd be fine for a few years but then you'll be replacing them all at the same time again.

I'm familiar with steel spring so that is what I prefer.

The rubber teeth on my round baler seem fine for a few years, and then all fail quickly. As the other fella mentioned, seems age eats up rubber, not good for a low volume, long time owner.

STEEL no questions asked. I have an Old Ford rake that does a real good job but it ha the rubber teeth and I have yet to find steel replacement teeth for it so at $4 each to replace all the bad teeth would cost a mint

I switched from steel to rubber, and was surprised how soon they failed...went back to buying steel.

Price is about 2.5:1 in favor of steel. As a NH parts manager, I bet I sell 10:1 steel over rubber. Be sure to price OEM steel: I'm told they are price competitive. NH steel teeth are USA made last time I checked.

I don't know the part numbers off hand, but the steel teeth and clips for the Ford rake are still available from New Holland. My dealer even stocks them.

To the original poster - I also prefer steel rake teeth over rubber mounted ones.

None of the farm and home stores in my area have the steel ones for the ford I know I look every time I am in one

Go to a New Holland dealer and ask for part numbers 146545 and 146546. That will get you the steel teeth and clips to replace the rubber teeth on your rake.

Thanks. I'll have to buy a few of them and then see if I can then find ones that match at a farm and home place
