Ive got a 3 tie Nh 290 that im gonna do a little bailing with tomorrow. Id say its similiar to a 282 nh 2 tie. Mine is 80 strokes per minute. What should i watch or listen for when to get a nice bale. The bale length is maxed at 52". Its not my first time bailing but i havent spent much time mastering this subject. Thanks.

Ween I had a 282,I could feel the plunger strokes. When a bale falls, count till the next bale falls in about the same place.I
hope you have a loader. You're gonna need it........

Got a NH 417 Usually open the back cab window and count till I hear the knotters go off. You get in the beat of it and it helps with selecting ground speed. Neighbour built an electric counter with switches and a read out display we haven't got to making one for me yet.

Just curious but why would you make a 52" long sq bale? I agree that would cause heavy bales. To determine PH strokes one could count flakes/blocks in a bale of hay.

It will make a 24-52" bale. We make 3 tie in my area mainly because the harrow bed service is available. Usually people shoot for bale weight at 115 lbs. i dont have to make a 52" i just thought it be less bales in the field. I my manuel says 16x23" meaning flake size?

52 inch bale is really long. How are you picking them up? If you are going to pick up with bale wagon operators usually don't want a bale over 48" and according to my book 46 is optimum length.

I took your advice and adjusted down to a 46". Thanks for the input. Funny how you can get an eye for bale length!

16" x 23" is the cross section dimensions of the bale. The other dimension is length and you can set/control it, but not the other
dimensions.
