My son recently bought a 630 new Holland Baler and is having trouble trying to get a bale to start, especially in course wheat hay any ideas what I should tell him to check or adjust
It will start a bale in grass hay but still hard to get the bale started sometimes

Has it been tedder? I have never run these smaller balers but as
for the larger ones I can offer these ideas.

Idle down a little and start feeding the bale on one side or the
other not the middle.

I rolled some for the neighbor years ago with a 660. It was
mostly groom sage raked with a rollabar rake late in the season.
I had to pull into the window from the side (90 degrees) to get
the roll to start. Nathan

Never did wheat hay with the 630, but have done real short grass hay and real long stemmy grass hay.

Always rake the biggest windrow possible (about width of baler) and start into windrow in the gear you want to bale in, but at part throttle, once hay is feeding in, go to 540 PTO RPM.

I usually plug the pickup if trying to cross a windrow :-(

Never had issues starting bales as long as the belts were tight and even length.
Did put all new belts on it, but only issues starting bales were after the new belts went on and I didn't have them tight enough.

I had a 660 that way.If I was at PTO speed when starting a bale then it didn't bother.I just backed up and dumped a bale then brought it up to PTO speed when picking up the windrow then it didn't bother.
