7/8 center disc blade

I am looking for some experience with combo center disc blades. Here is what I am dealing with. I was given a Ferguson ABO 22 disc that had a tree fall on it. It broke a half dozen blades that I need to replace. Unfortunately it uses a 7/8 shaft for the blades. True 7/8 center blades are extremely difficult to find and outrageously priced. What I do find are 7/8 SQ x 1 in. round combo blades that are,[relatively],reasonably priced. My question is will the centers hold up, before I commit to buying them. Yes I already know that the best idea would be to hold out another disc. But good quality 3 pt discs are extremely hard to find and so far my investment is the gas money to bring it home.

Combo center discs work well if the spool surfaces are not worn and the gang bolts are torqued properly and stay tight.

Agri Supply has blades with opening to fit 7/8 or 1" square axle for from $7.99 to $11.00 per blade. And any one of them would be good to fit your disk. 16 or 18" blades, also have some sizes of 14" to replace wore broken 16" blades.

OK thanks guys. I was a little nervous about the combo centers being strong enough. The Agri supply ones were what I was looking at. So I guess I will go for it. I probably will end up with more in it than it's worth, but it certainly won't be the first that has happened! And at least I will know what I have got.

When assembling, make sure parts are clean. A bit of dirt on spools or blades will turn to powder after using it, and the gang will be loose.

I doubt that will be an issue, give the concerns about the spool ends. I will probably put the spools in the lathe and "freshen" the ends.

Remember if you do that the ends are NOT FLAT but same curve as the blades. If you make them anyother way than what they are now you will not be able to tighten up the blades. Just use a power wire brush to just clean and if you find a burr just a file to get rid of it. Lathe bad idea.

OK it was a good idea while it lasted. Although I probably could match the profile, the file is probably a safer bet, assuming it needs anything at all.
