So I bought a JD 270 mower and as it turns out it's in pretty bad shape. Basically it needs a completely different cutter bar. I've found parts for it in a salvage yard but it is fairly expensive. I recently found a JD 260 complete mower for sale that needs a main gear case that's half the price of the different cutterbar for the 270 from the salvage yard. The question is will the gear case from the 270 fit in the 260? I've checked with the local dealer and no one seems to know anything about these mowers. I had them look up some parts and some interchanged and some didn't. They said the gear case did not interchange so I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is as far as I can tell they look the same. I know these mowers are made by Kuhn and are the same as some New Hollands but they seem very hard to find parts for. Any help greatly appreciated!
