I'm getting ready to do some work on my Hesston PT 1070.
It was working when I put it up last fall, but it was starting to have an issue with the reel.
Over time, the reel would creep toward the drive end (the end with the big chain drive sprocket and slip clutch). As it does this, the teeth on that end of the reel bars start to slap on the heads of the bolts that hold the shield over the chain drive and sprocket.
That's mostly annoying, but the teeth do break after a while.
The biggest problem, though, is that the other end of the bars...the end with the little arm and drive wheels on it...can get to the point where the little guide wheels come out of the D-shaped track that makes the teeth rotate properly to feed the grass over the cutterbar and up to the crusher rolls.
I can put everything back in its track and get everything working fine again by tapping on the end of the reel shaft to put the reel back into alignment...but that was just a quick fix to finish mowing last fall.
Has this happened to anybody else? What's loosened up on the shaft to allow it to shift side to side?
I have a feeling that I need to pull the slip clutch and drive sprocket assembly to have a "come to Jesus" inspection of the bearing behind it? Everything turns easily. It doesn't act like a bearing is shot....I'm a little baffled.
