Gravity Boxes

I was wondering if I could haul sand in a gravity box. If something is screwy with this topic i am sorry i am new to the sight.

Hi,I've never heard of anyone that has actually done
it but if it's dry and no clay or big rocks mixed in my
vote is that it would flow

Would have to only load 1/3 load, sand weighs a lot more per volume than corn does.

I think sand is almost always damp enough it won't flow out quite right, will need a little assist? Might depend on an old Minnesota box or a new
steeper sided box.....

Do not overload it and you may have a little trouble opening the door as the sand will settle fairly tight against it. Fertlizer does the same thing if a loaded wagon is moved very far. You may have to stick a bar under the door to help it open. Tom

it isn't just sand that won't flow out of an orange Minnesota, they should have come from the factory with a scoop shovel hanging along side, unless the sand is dry it isn't going to flow out very well on it's own

Not sand but gravel and not over a quarter full, then have to pry open door, then rake out with a garden hoe. Was easier to just shovel off a flat bed trailer.

You won"t ruin the box....gravel weighs about 65 lbs per cubic foot....grain is less...36-60 lbs per bushel....do the math for converting...no reason why it wont work, but you need to load the box light.
