John Deere planter plates

I use an Allis Chalmers planter with John Deere plates. The seed I have calls for a B-9 deere plate and the closest I can find locally is B-8. Are they close to the same? If not where can I find plates that would ship them soon? I would like to plant sometime next week. Thanks for any help/advice,Lee

Dang it. I had about every JD plate known to man hanging out here in the tool shed but I gave them all away. If I still had them,I'd have been more than glad to have sent some right out to you.

My seed called for a B9 also.A B19 and B17 are close,so that is what I am useing.B8 is bigger, but not by much. It will plant a bit heavier also. Pour a few kernals into your hand and check it out.You will probably be fine. Lincoln Ag Products,Evergreen,Colorado sells new plates.$20.00 each+ shipping. They are very knowledgeable and can advise.(303)658-0281

I am certain you would have Randy. I wish I had realised I didnt have that size sooner. I have several but didnt have the one it called for. Thanks for the thought anyway!

Ya,I even went out and looked. There was one B7 hanging there that I'd missed when I got rid of the rest. Maybe next time I'll have something you need.

Brainfart. I thought you were in Pennsyltucky. There's afew places there I can think of that may have them or tell you who may have some. I know I had a pile back some thirty years ago. If you can find some farm that has a bunch, buy them if you keep that planter. Seed sizes change from year to year. Your best bet is to find a 7000 JD or something even newer with a vacuum or pressure system.

I plan to keep using my old allis. J D 7000 would be nice but I dont plant a lot. Usually not over 10-15 acres. The allis seems simpler to me and it does a good job with no till.At this stage in my life I like to keep things as simple as possible.lol

The easiest way to find a correct seed plate is to take a sample of your seed corn and find the largest kernels and see how they fix your seed plate. Over the years I have found that the suggested seed plate size is just that, a suggestion.

Lee- I couldn't find the number last nite, but did now. Try Pequea Planter in Lancaster, Pa. They're not a big outfit, but rebuild planters and stuff for the Amish. 717-442-4406. They're a bit hard to get hold of at times, but they have had a few things I have needed. Worth a try....

My local dealer that handled AC parts had a bunch of used plates so that may be an option. I brought a few sweet corn seeds in and he matched them up to plates! I got what I needed for about $5 each. Ebay is also a good source for used plates.
