5100 planter

having trouble figuring out gearing on my 5100 white planter. going to use it for soybeans. 4 row 38" spacing with 5 row splitter on the back. want to plant 160,000 population.

I have 5100 with 3row splitter. Take your corn population times 8 to get soybean population with 120 cell bean plates. (Corn plates are 30 cell). So set your corn pop. at 20,000 to get 160000 beans planted. I personally plant 170,000 to make up for loss in germination. Good luck.

so would the 20,000 pop be based on the 4 row units spaced at 38" correct?

orn population is based on 30 cell seed disk, bean disk should be 120 cells although there are some 60 cell disks out their, you should be using the 120 cell disks. Bean disks have 4 times the seed cells than corn(30 Times 4 equals 120) so take your corn pop. Times 4 to get pop. without the splitter, than Times 2 with the splitter. 4 times 2 =8 So corn pop. Times 8 =bean pop. with splitter using 120 cell disk. Hope I didn't confuse you with my long winded answer. Also, check your lift wheel bolts that clamp the planter lift mechanisms to the main 7 by7 toolbar, have broke a few, try to keep a couple spare on hand. Good luck.

to try to plant 160 or 170000 I would have to run 8 mph. any idea how to decrease population if I slow down? looks like the slower I go the more it plants.
