This old disc

Great forum, first post, thanks for having me. I have this old disc, said to be an International. I'm plan to repair/replace all of the broken parts, but I'm not sure what model I have. I was told that this is the place to find out. It's a 12 footer and I have more pictures if this is not enough for a positive diagnosis. The hydraulic cylinder is broken. I may want to repair it if it's original, but that green and yellow paint tells me it's probably not. Note: this disc belonged to my grandfather, then my father, and now it's mine. I probably won't listen to advice to throw it away and get something else. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, there is usually a sensible person in the crowd that advises, "junk it". But that is because they know how much (about) it will cost to restore it. Good for you to keep this piece of equipment going. Three generations is a mighty good reason to fix it. gobble

The front 2 gangs are in pretty good shape, but the backs are going to need a lot. Are the pictures showing up? I can't see them on what I'm using to view.

Every 37 picture I see has the tires outside of the frame. My disc has them inside of the frame. Different model?

Thanks. Does the tire being inside the frame affect that
opinion? Otherwise, I agree it looks just like the 37.

According to my book there is an 80" tread on the wider ones with wheels inside the frame.

This stuff is shown on the case/ih parts store also

I bought a 37 a few years back that was painted green so I was thinking Oliver. My co-worker from a Nebraska farm knew what it was immediately. I replaced about six discs and some bearings; parts were reasonable and available. I'm very happy with it. As most will tell you, get those gangs tight after you change blades/bearings. I used a 36" pipe wrench to grip the spool and 3/4" drive socket (1 5/16" I think) on the nut. Have someone tap on the inner hub while you tighten, just be gentle since it's cast iron. I love bringing the old stuff back to working order.

Good advice. I see Case/IH still sells some parts for it, including the discs themselves. While the IH parts are more expensive, are they really better? My biggest concern is the time it'll take me to do it, so if the extra cost will help prevent doing it again, I'm willing to spend.

I have an identical disk and it is a 37. I replaced a few disk blades and bought them from local Case-Ih dealer. Priced as reasonable as any and worked so far. My complaint is that it seems to sag on the outer ends and dosesn't level very well.
