250 new idea sickle mower

Picked up what looks like a 250 new idea sickle masquerading as a ford. What I want to know is how do I hook this up to my ford 3000? I've attached a picture of what I bought but as I'm new to sickle mowers I'm not sure how or if this will attach. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Will

That type of mower is intended to bolt to a drawbar on a non-3-point tractor, like a Farmall H. It can work on your Ford. One way is to use those holes on the hitch part to add a plate with lower link pins on either end of it and semi-mount it on the 3-point arms. You'll want stabilizers on the tractor so it doesn't wander around. Just remember not to lift the arms when the mower's hooked up!

Could I just remove that spring on the left of the bar with all the holes and bolt it to my drawbar on my 3pt? I'm just not sure what that spring was for. I'm pretty much a greenhorn with this as my dad farmed years ago with horses and very little with tractors. I've just recently started trying to acquire things to work the ground again. I planted hay last fall and I'm trying to pick up a few things to harvest the hay this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that spring is for the breakaway in case you hit something, maybe if you put some blocks under that bar and bolt the drawbar underneath it

I'll give that a try. Looking on the under side there is wear marks as if it was bolted on a draw bar before that way. So we will see how it goes.
