John Deere 'B' grain drill

I bought a JD model 'B' drill today. Mainly I needed a drill with a grass seeder on it to seed a few acres hay this year as well as a five
acre CRP filter strip. I found a manual for a FB drill in the file cabinet from when we had a FB years ago. Mainly I just want to have a
chart for both the large and small seed boxes. Would the chart for the FB be the same as for the B? When I was a kid there were lots of FB
and FB-B drills around here but I don't ever recall seeing these B's with the galvanized seed box. Anything else I should know about them?

I have a Great Plains 30' drill but it doesn't have a grass seed attachment and it is a pain to clean out for just a few small patches every
now and then. I look forward to pulling the B drill with our 1020.

I doubt seed charts for both drills you mentioned are identical. Seed charts weren't 100% for stated model but merely gives operator a starting point.

The placard under the seed box lid of my B drill says right on it that it is for the B, FB, LL, LZ, PD, and EE drills with 6, 7, and 8 inch spacing and the same chart is used for all of them. This chart is only for the main seed box - I don't know about the small seed box since I don't have that attachment on mine.

I got sidetracked typing up my reply and actually didn't see your post until after I submitted mine.

These are pretty good old drills. Here's a shot of my "B and the B" from a few years ago getting ready to sow wheat.

You may be right about different charts for different drills but I can tell you the one for my old FB-B is very accurate. I always amazed how accurate it seeds for such a simple design.
