New Holland twine knife question

I am pretty sure I have read online somewhere that the fixed twine knife on the old new holland balers can be replaced with a new bolt on knife by drilling out the rivets. Is this correct ? If so where do you pick up this knife and bolt kit. Thanks

Although a different color, my JD 336 square baler had riveted on twine knives. I ground the rivet heads off and carefully tapped the rivets out (as you'd have to do to change the knives anyhow) then simply replaced the rivets with I believe #10 machine screws, lock washers, and nuts (used a drill gauge to check rivet diameter and got the closest size at my local hardware store). I then tripped the knotter and had a helper turn the baler over by hand so I could make sure the bolt heads wouldn't rub anything.

5000 +/- bales later, and works like a dream! Hopefully this will help you out.

On my 275 square baler I have 1 old stile knife that your can't replace and the other 1 is braded on and its under $12 at new holland. If you look at messick web site there is a superseded number and that's the one you can get the replacement for, drill it out and bolt it on.I was going to get a replacement but it's $160 + so I took my file and sharpened it and changed the blade on the other,no problems.

mine ships, as a matter of fact, the dealership is about 60 miles away--have had salesmen coming my way drop off my parts at work.

called my dealer and he told me they don't make a bolt on blade that will fit the 68 hayliner. Said I would have to buy the whole knife arm.
