Hi guys, i have spotted a NH 479 Haybine in the local classified
I need opinion about this model and what you can see from the picture and also how to haul it

I plan to see it for myself next weekend before doing anything else. The guy was nice enough to keep it for me since i was the first to call.

From the ad description he changed the sickle bar 2 years ago and kept the old one as spare, the tires are very good, rolls have no wear. On the phone he also told me he was currently changing the bearings of the wobble box.

Also another concern. Most people say haul it behind your truck. Yeah well in Quebec we have so many rough roads at this time of year that i am scared to death to haul it over 150km (~90 miles) without breaking something. So i am also asking what the best way to put a haybine sideways on a trailer without a ramp. Can we use the loader of a tractor? what's the best method of lifting it?

I used a dock to load mine sideways on
a gooseneck trailer. Took the tongue of
and drove home. Got home unloaded it
with a case backhoe. Ran chains around
the axles and one around the pocket for
the tongue. It picked it up flat enough
to get it of the trailer. Think mine is
a 490.

Lower the header once it's loaded, should be a bit more stable. You can use a
ratcheting type lift instead of a hydraulic cylinder. Ben

479 is a good machine . When I bought my 492 90 ,miles away I hired a buddy with a low
trailer . Made some ramps from channel iron , backed her on sideways , pulled the tongue
and brought it home. You certainly can pull them with a truck . My problem was most
direct route was through 2 towns .

(quoted from post at 02:39:26 04/10/16) My problem was most direct route was through 2 towns .

I've stopped counting the amount of towns i would have to go through taking the long road hence why also my problem aside from the roads conditions. And the nicest road people drive 60 mph all the time so me driving 30-40mph even on a Sunday morning is not a good idea since it's a 1 lane

I have another question. It would help me. Since i may rent the trailer. How much are the dimensions without the tongue and how heavy it is?

I would make sure the rubber rolls are still firmly attached to the steel rolls.
