DMC grain cleaner

I am looking at a DMC Hi-Cap grain cleaner and know nothing about them. How do I determine what screen is in it? Are they marked or go by the hole size or what?

Screens were whatever was ordered when new or changed to I think, so measuring the screen is pretty much your only option. In corn country they are all pretty much sized for corn. Also up here in NW Iowa they pretty much a thing of the past. To slow or to much work to set up for production and I don't think they get things clean enough for corn burners which are also on the outs due to fuel prices currently.

What I am saying is you should be able to by it pretty reasonable at least in this part of the world.

The screen is just standard hardware cloth. I bought a new one some years back. I found that here in NY I wanted screens a size smaller than what came on it. Changing screens is not something you want to do more than once! I think mine came with 5/8 and 3/8 screens. I put on 1/2 and 1/4.

Screens are fairly easy to make yourself if you can get the different size hardware cloth needed, pricey if you need to buy oem. I bought a Dmc 40 Hi-Cap couple years ago used, a bit pricey in my area compared to what I see advertised elsewhere. If the unit your looking at discharges the coarse screenings in the middle you will definitely need some kind of deflector to keep the mess contained somewhat. My unit doesn't have the shielding to catch it. I do some shelled corn (for corn stove) but mostly for taking fines (foxtail seed) out of oats. Does good on fines but not as good as I would like for getting any bits of straw/coarse stuff out of the grain. If you can get the book with it the book has recommendations of screens for the different grains. As others said is slower than you would think if want a good job done.
