JD 33 Planter for pelleted seed?

I'd like to use my JD33 planter to plant pelleted carrot seed. The seed is 11.5 size. I have B28034, B28261, B28262 and B28263 plates. Will any of these work on 11.5 pelleted seed? Thanks.

Does 11.5 size indicate 11.5/64 inch diameter or about BB size? If so the B2826X plates might be too thin as they're only .060" thick and the seeds could easily roll out of the cells. However, the .120" thick B28034 plate only has 36 cells so even with the fastest drive ratio you'll have nearly a 3 inch seed spacing which would be a really thin planting. If you have the seed and the plates on hand the best thing to do is try it out and see what works best. Remove the baffle plate in the hopper for your testing so you can better see what the seed is doing as you spin the gauge wheel. Also make sure the planter is fairly level when you're doing this since the angle of the plate will effect how it carries the seed up to the drop tube.

When I bought my 33 units the previous owner had bent the chain guard up and out of the way to allow a larger drive sprocket on the gauge wheel to tighten up the spacing. This would work as long as you drove very slowly to keep the rotational speed of the plate down. Even with the fastest "approved" ratio the manual recommends a maximum speed of only 2 mph.
