McCormick MF Grain Drill Drive Gear

Hi all! I have recently purchased a MF drill and plan on using it to seed some pasture forage for my hogs. I have an issue with the main drive gear not disengaging when you lift the discs. This model has the large cone shaped cast gear with a smaller gear set at an angle to drive the feed shaft. The problem appears to be that the large cone will not slide on the main shaft coming from the wheels. I'm not even sure if this is how it is supposed to operate but from looking at it this is what I have assumed. It looks like the large cone gear has a sleeve coming out of the back that slides over the main drive shift and then on the outside a key that slides up into a collar. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed how this is supposed to work and that the large cone is supposed to slide on the main shaft to disengage the feed shaft? Also, if that is how it is supposed to work, any ideas on how to free that drive gear from the shaft so that it will slide back and forth? Need help as the weather is going to break pretty soon for me to get in the field and get these pastures planted.

Thanks!

Rick
