John Deere Van Brunt EE Grain Drill

I have a 1930's John Deere Van Brunt Model EE Grain Drill. It has 12 single discs 7 inches apart. I acquired it at an action and the previous
owner had built on larger wood hopper onto the grass seed hopper. I would like to restore this drill back to its original condition and have
plans to use it to plant some grass in the near future. The previous owner had the lid for the grass seed hopper but not for the grain
hopper. The dimensions are 88 inches by 10 inches. It is a single piece lid with 2 spring loaded openers that are located 6 inches in on
either side. I wondering if there is anyone out there that might have one of these drills sitting around that I could get a lid from. I've
checked alot of salvage yards but have had no luck. All the drills I've found have 2 piece lids and I believe that these galvanized lids are
the same all the way up through the B models. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the '12 hole' drills used a one piece lid.16 and bigger usually used a 2 piece lid.About the "Grass Seeder"(we call it an "alfalfa box). It's really not for grasses. Most grass seed is way too strawy and bulky for the little box and tiny metering 'cups'.That box is more suited for alfalfa, and tiny heavy seed like that. For grass, you are better off to mix grass and oats(for a 'carrier'). Mix the seed in a stock tank and set drill accordingly. If your drill does not have an agitator, stir the mix every couple of rounds with a stick to prevent bridgeing. In my humble opinion, the best way to plant straight grass is to broadcast and cover with a harrow,or similar.(I use a roller harrow). In fact,I no longer even own a drill anymore. Just broadcast everything(grass, alfalfa, small grains,'mixes'....)

All drills I have seen in a 12-7 size used a 2 piece lid and even some smaller drills used a 2 piece. And I don't know what kind of grass seed you would have that did not go through the small grass seed box, everything in my area you had to put through that box, could not shut down enough to put any of it in the grain box.

The small box we always called a grass box but your right most grass will not feed through it I pull the seed tubes out of the opener and use the drill to broadcast grass seed that way just let the press wheels push the the seed in that way it doesn't get to deep
