Cleaning a Hay Baler How to?

I just purchased a used 605H Vermeer hay baler and wanted to know the best way to clean the grime and dirt off of it without damaging any parts. Also, where can I buy the paint to match the original paint on it?

I will second TxJim's idea of compressed air or a leaf blower. We do wash ours but right before we go use them in the spring. That way any water does not sit and rust any bearings or such. NEVER wash one and put it away for long term storage. You will bind up some thing.

The most important part on a Vermeer baler to keep clean are the springs. If you want tight bales you need to keep all the grime out of the springs.

Around here, for the BTO's, diesel-powered portable compressors as are used to run jackhammers are the "have to have" tool for cleaning off combines and tractors.

A guy has one just across the highway from the residential area where my house is, sure makes an interesting noise when they get it revved up with a cleaning "lance" and get to work.

Not for now, but when you get it clean, ALWAYS after all the windrows are up , back the baler up to the shop and using a 4 footair nozzle blow that thin spotless. No residue to soak up rain and cause rust

Leaf blowers work great. For years dad never had anything like that, and never wanted one because we never really tasked up the leaves in the yard, just mulched them with the lawn mower.

He got one for Christmas one year and now he won't go without. Great for getting the baler, chopper, haybine, etc. clean.
