Lot numbers on New Idea spreaders

What does the lot number mean on new idea manure spreaders? I assume its manufacturing year. But, I cannot find a place that has them listed.
I found a pretty decent Model 17 with Lot #417. Its fairly large Im guessing 75/80 bushels, ground driven. Looks like all the chains and gears are intact. tires seem fine, wood is decent, its usable as is. What kind of price do these bring? Id like to make a respectable offer to the gentleman.
Can anyone help me out.
Thanks for helping..

All I know is,when I had a Uni Harvester, the dealer told me the lot number was more important than the serial number when ordering parts.

Most of them bring some good money around here because the horsey folks want them. They're small enough for the little Ford and and other overgrown lawn mowers they want to pull them with. Make sure you check the apron chain for wear on the backs of the knuckles on the links. If that apron separates with a load on because of a weak link, I guarantee the sky will change to a deeper shade of blue with each fork full you have to dig out....

They made the different machines in batches, perhaps a batch a year or every other year depending on how fast a seller it was. Then again they may have made 5 or more batches in a single year if it was a big seller type of item. If they made a change in the item the change was made going from one batch to a next one so that is where the part numbers changed. I know I have a parts book around here someplace for that spreader, Not sure if it has lot numbers listed or not. I know they are listed for the No. 8, 9, 10, 10A spreaders and for the 3 bar and4 bar hay rakes. And if it is that size and I am thinking it is bigger than that it would be one of the second smallest spreaders New Idea ever made with only the horse drawn No. 9 being smaller at about 65 bu. The No.8 horse drawn spreader was 80 bushels. Late 40's to early 50's time frame.
