Anyone ever rebuild a NH 273 Feeder Assembly

Looking for advice on replacing the fiber blocks, track bearings, etc . Wondering if you ever have to use shims even with new blocks to compensate for wear in the track. Thanks

I have replaced the bearings and had to replace part of the track. Never did anything with the shims. look the frame assemblies over real close. Mine started to crack from metal fatigue. Welded and reinforced a lot, but then would crack someplace else. New replacement frame parts from NH are rididulously priced. finally bought a parts baler with a good feeder assembly in it. Otherwise rebuild is pretty straightforward.

Yep did this very thing this past summer... I believe the book will give you the clearance they should be. If they dont then shim.. If not I can tell you that when I get home from work.. When I installed mine new I didnt shim.. they were within the # given.

The book calls for 1/8 in. Did you replace the roller bearings also. How about the height of the side rails? I just found out you can raise them. Thanks David

I did the rollers the year before.. Never had to adjust the side rails yet.. I did have slight wear on the back of one rail but nothing bad enough to warrant replacement.. Those rollers are pricey.. I thought 1/8 but didnt want to lead you wrong until I knew for sure..

I'll second what Doug-Wi said. Mine dropped the rear center finger last summer. The part that clamps the finger fatigued and broke off. CNH wants $515 for the part. Check 'em all for cracks. I have replaced all the bearings, not hard, just watch your fingers taking the feeder out and putting it back in. Lots of pinch points. I found one the hard way.

Ditto on the pulling it out.. Ive done it few times and this last time I had a brain Fart and grabbed it as it comes out the baler &*(*%^ came down and put a hole through the finger nail into the finger.. yet i still didnt drop it...lol

Any bearing house can get you those rollers way cheaper. It's a standard cam-follower bearing. Don't have the number at hand but you can find it in online catalogs.

If you happen to find the number let me know..Ive looked and looked and the cams dont have numbers on them from N.H. I was going to make my own.. so the number would be useful..thanks

We had a 273 when i was a kid on the family farm but we never had to rebuild the feeder system except to change out the aluminum tines several times and to replace the fiber blocks once or twice. Good baler overall but would choke on heavy windrows. Often had to slow a bit to allow some heavy hay go thru. But even for a moderate capacity baler it was built like a tank and just seemed to run forever.

Please post a part number for a non NH bearing, would be nice to get them a bit more reasonably than what they charge.
