490 new holland swather

What are your opinions on a 490 swather? One close to me for sale. Rollers look good just a few cracks. A few farmer fixs mostly a weld on the bar in front of the wheel. Trying to upgrade from a sickle bar, do maybe 40 acre a year that's a high estimate. Has a 14 foot cut.

It's an old machine. 41 to 46 years old. and the cut is 12' not 14'. Condition is everything; if it is in god shape and cheap it might do well for you. Guards and knives must be in excellent shape to avoid bar and wobble problems due to the 12' single sickle

My FIL has owned a 490 for many decades and I use it occasionally. It has treated him well but to be honest it doesn't do even 100 acres total each year and is stored inside so it's lived a pretty easy life. It's a fairly simple machine and does a decent job. Being a 12-ft side-pull means that it is rather clumsy going down the road but that probably isn't a deal-breaker, just something to keep in mind.

Had one. It's 12'. Good machine. Folds end wise for transport position.
