JD 290 planter

I need help on my 290 JD Corn planter.
I can't get the differential housing to engage.
Any ideas?
 
Are you talking about getting the shift lever to move or getting the clutch part to enguage when you drop the planter to the ground. It will not run the planter in the up position, only in down. And to change gear slections it needs to be in raised position to remove pressure on gears. Without more information we will not be able to help you. Am assuming you are meaning the transmission instead of differential. The differential does not disengauage at any time. Chain from wheel on each side to differential shaft and gear on differential to clutch and gearbox.

When I move forward with the planter nothing engages.
The planter doesn't go up or down anymore and I can't figure out why?
 
Sounds like you have a clutch lift planter and not hydrolik lift. So it is in the clutch or clutch linkage. Do you have parts book? That is the first thing to do is get one if you do not have one. Some operators have a partial parts list in them but you need the dealer type and that is avaible on line from Deere for free. If you get that then you should be able to follow the ilistrations and figure out what the problem is. You might start out looking for a missing spring.
