I have a 5 foot blade that I use with my 8N. It's a normal blade, in good shape. Is there any reason I can't fashion some end pieces and maybe some skid pieces to make it into a box blade? Either permanent or removable, either way looks to be about the same difficulty in the making.

I guess my real question is: Has anyone done it and with what kind of results?

I don't think I need or want the chisels that are on the store bought ones. I would be using it to spread gravel and loose soil mostly.

here is another one,
note the ends of the side panels are braced to the center of the blade
that may be necessary, as your ends will not have the support of the normal support members of a regular box blade.

just my story: A man cannot have tool many tools

I have a box blade, scraper blade and a rock rake,
they all have their place when you need them

however, I use the box blade and rock rake the most.

Some manufacturers made the side blades as an add on option to the back blade. If the company of your blade is still in business they might still be available. It's worth a shot. Or just fab up your own. I would make them removable in case I wanted to use the blade for other things.

My Dad did it,and I still use one.Mostly I leave the wings off,so my advice is to make them a bolt on setup so you can remove them,if needed. They do help to hold more dirt to move, but you can run out of traction, too.Mark
